Food and social connection

idag kl. 11:28
Welcome to an inspiring workshop about Culinary Culture at the Women's Café in English on Friday, October 16, with Mala Krishnan as the expert of the day.

You will learn more about food and social connection, in a warm and safe environment. This is how Mala describes her session:

"I’m Mala, a culinary educator and food entrepreneur based in Helsinki. My work explores food as a way of connecting people, cultures, memories and everyday life, with a particular interest in Southeast Asian food traditions and food knowledge. I’m also developing Re’itas / RUAN, an initiative exploring Indigenous food knowledge from Peninsular Malaysia and its connections with land, living ecosystems, cultural and intergenerational learning.

For the Women’s Cafe, I’ll be talking about "Around the Table". The conversation will explore how food can bring back memories of home, childhood and family, and how cooking and eating together can create a sense of belonging. I’ll also invite participants to reflect on their own food memories and traditions, so the session will be relaxed, interactive and conversational."

Doors open at 12:00 and no registration is needed. We will meet, as usual in "Hörnet" in Luckan in Helsinki (Yrjönkatu 27), on floor 1. We will serve coffee, tea, and some snacks. The doors close at 14:00.

The Women's Café in English -meetings are organised in a relaxed, informal way around a cup of tea or coffee. Make new friends and get involved in what is happening locally. Welcome!

At all our meetings, we follow the Golden Rules of the Women’s Café:

  • Treat others as you would like to be treated
  • Respect boundaries, both your own and those of others
  • Emotions are welcome; aggression is not
  • Celebrate success
  • Focus on the positive
  • Reflect before you speak or act:

Is it kind?

Is it true?

Is it necessary?
